EZ Mornings with Jack Peets and Lori Love - blog

I'm Hot...I Mean I'm Cold....

Why Do We Worry So Much About the Weather?

I love turkey....

Just like other traditional holidays, I love Easter.  Yes I love the chocolate, which I feel no guilt in eating at Easter, but I really love it because its another reason to feast on turkey.

I think that a traditional turkey dinner, with all the fixins', is my favorite meal.  I could eat a turkey dinner once a week and never get tired of it.
I'm a white meat girl.  I'm not big on the drumstick or anything "under" the bird.  The breast meat works for me.  Lean...no fat and delicious as it swims in gravy right beside my mashed potatoes.

My Mom-In-Law, Helen, is taking care of dinner this year...all of it.  I've been told to bring nothing but my hubby and an appetite.  We will be joined by 2 other couples that are good friends of Helen's - Dick and Rita and Pat and Blair, Kendra, Tony and Tyler (Darren's sister and hubby and nephew) and my Mom, sister Kelly, Maddy and Avery will all be there.

Screaming Child Who Got His Own Way....

It something that most parents have had to deal with...
Don't you just love the colour green?

Don't you just love the colour green?

It's finally here...the week virtually all golfers have been waiting for...Masters Week has arrived!  Could this be the year Mike Weir once again gets fitted for the famed green jacket?  Or is it the year of the Tiger once more?  Regardless, high-definition televisions everywhere will be tuned to the tournament all weekend long.  And in case you're wondering about the uneasy smile in the accompanying pic...my long dreamed of pilgrimage to the legendary Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia...never got past the front gate.

Sometimes I don't have a brain....

Do you ever have one of those days when cursing just doesn't truly help when you do something dumb.

Case in point....this morning while I was getting ready for work, I noticed that I had left my prescription glasses on my vanity.  No problem...I'll dry my hair, put on a little bondo (makeup), grab the glasses and go.  Unfortunately not the case today.

While I was drying my hair...both Regis and Donahue, the kittens in the house, decided to jump into my sink and watch what I was doing.  Its so cute and they make me smile.  They knock things over and bat things into the sink but it doesn't matter...I love that they're there with me at that ungodly hour.

Adopting a Pet Is Much Easier Nowadays!

Good morning Lori.   "Merv" is a beautiful cat!  One of my daughters wanted to bring him home when we adopted our Corgie mix in early January.   I appreciate you sharing your experiences that lead to promotion of worthy causes such as the Lincoln County Humane Society.    I'd like to share my learning experience with you.  In spring of 1999 I adopted a large breed dog from LCHS, paid under $100 and signed an agreement to have full shots completed in a few weeks.  Very simple requirements and cheap enough, until you get the vet bill (haha).   "Domi" turned out to be a Houdini of sorts and repetedly got out of the yard, broke his chain, ran to the lake or played with the neighbouring dogs and horses.  He's fine, still running, just a lot slower now, but our biggest fear was if we couldn't find him would we ever know what happened to him.  Pet insurance and micro chips were the "new" thing back then and very costly.  Our family was complete so we did not visit the LCHS again for fear of the temptation of bringing home another animal.  Recently, as I mentioned, we adopted a new family member.  To my surprise I no longer knew how organized and affordable adopting a pet from LCHS is.  Even paying the vet for the series of required shots and examination for a large breed dog back in 1999 was nearly $200, plus the fee for the adoption.  Ten years later I paid approx the same amount for a small dog that included basic (but not all) shots, 45 days of pet insurance, microchip identification and my 1st year license.

Doing their thing for the homeless....

All this week, 4 Brock University students are living outside, with a piece of cardboard, a sleeping bag and a pillow....Why? For the Homeless.... 5 Days for the Homeless is underway at Universities right across Canada. Students have agreed to live outside, in the elements, with no food (unless donated by a passer-by), no iPOD, no toothbrush...no coffee! The idea is to feel the plight of the homeless in this country and raise funds to bring awareness to this increasing problem. This is the second time that Brock University have been in the news over the past two weeks. Brock is also the place that raised the most money for a charity that is close to, CBC's Rick Mercer, heart.

Jumping into the Falls

You may have heard on the News with Michelle Cruise this morning that a man was rescued from the Falls yesterday afternoon. Although not a topic that is always fit for radio, its hard to keep quiet about a guy who just wanted to end his life...and couldn't do that right either. I want to make it perfectly clear, I am not laughing or trying to point out any comedic side to this. I am sad that someone deemed their life so unimportant that he felt the need to end it. I couldn't imagine getting up the courage to stand on the rim of a giant drop, to then jump, and live!! I mean you are standing there thinking this is the last time you'll see the Falls, the snow, the tourists with their cameras...then you jump.
